### Relationship between pKa and pKb

Is this the correct relationship?

higher (kA) = lower (pKa) = stronger acid --> and this relationship holds true for bases as well?

### When do you calculate Q prior to calculating concentrations?

My question is, when do you calculate Q for a problem determining the direction of the reaction? For example, problem 67. Why in this particular problem did we find Q first and not just proceed into the ICE box as we normally would? A 3.00l reaction vessel is filled with 0.342 mol CO, .215 mol H2, 0...

### Atoms and their Formal Charge

Which atoms are more stable carrying a certain charge? Specifically which atoms are better off carrying a negative charge over a positive charge and vice versa etc.? Furthermore, just for verification, you would much rather have a molecule carry a formal charge of zero (for stability reasons) than c...

### Quantum numbers are atomic orbitals

What exactly does (ml) tell you?? I know that by definition it is the magnetic quantum number and labels different orbitals of a sub-shell orientation, but I'm not quite sure what that means. If the ml= +5, what does that mean??

Thank you (:

### Material Covered on Midterm 1

I just have a quick question as to what topics will be covered on the Wednesday midterm. I know it is fundamentals, CH1, CH2, but I have an older edition of the book and chapter 2 is Chemical Bonds, and in the course reader Chemical Bonds is chapter 3. I guess my main question is are the topics that...

### Dimensional Analysis/ Unit conversion[ENDORSED]

I know there are a lot of posts on here about unit conversions, but I'm having a problem specifically with long dimensional analysis. Is there a need to do all of the conversions in one giant step, does it make it easier to visualize? I tend to break it up into smaller steps, which in the long run t...

Sodium vapor lamps, used for public lighting emit yellow light of wavelength 589nm. a.) How much energy is emitted by an excited sodium atom when it generates a photon? b.) 5.00mg of sodium atoms emitting light at this wavelength c.) 1.00 mol of sodium atoms emitting light at this wavelength? I unde...
