Thank you, but how based on the calculations of concentration are we able to tell? The solutions manual says because of the larger equilibrium concentration, but how does the equilibrium concentration relate back to thermodynamic stability?

Does counting the bonds and classifying them based upon the total number of shared electrons stand across all cases? I have come across examples where a linear structure was given and the correct hybridization turned out to be sp^3. Can someone help clarify why that would be?

When ligands are bonded to a metal or transition metal, they are bound by sharing electrons. Since it only takes 2 electrons to form a bond that can be shared between the complex and the ligand, double and triple bonds are not required as far as I know. Not completely sure though, hope this helped!

Separating the ligands into groups also helps, I separated them by their charge. This way you can more easily digest all of the information while also memorizing the charge of each ligand while you are trying to remember the name!

I don't believe so. Apparently, the test next Tuesday will cover all new material since Exam 1 but not including topics from Exam 1 like the periodic trends.

Formal Charge

When calculating formal charge, how do we tell apart which electrons are valence from those that are lone or shared? Aren't lone and shared electrons also valence electrons? If not, how can we distinguish them to utilize the formula FC=V-(L+S/2)? Thank you

Same question, I get confused on which to pay attention to when putting significant figures in the final answer. From my understanding though, the significant figures you begin with is what should be present in your final answer. Again, I could be misunderstood. Does someone mind clarifying this?

For intermediate calculations what are the general rules for sig figs in a problem with add/sub and mult/divis?
Is it best to not worry about sig figs intermediately in a mixed type of problem or should we adjust for sig figs throughout?
