Re: Difference between systems? [ENDORSED]

Once a person opens the thermos to drink, it becomes an open system, as both mass (the water) and energy (heat) can flow from the system to the surroundings and vice versa.

Re: Endothermic or Exothermic

Condensation is an exothermic process, as the water looses heat in order to turn from vapor to a liquid, which is released from the system into the surroundings

Re: Heat "flow" [ENDORSED]

This implies the idea that heat is a tangible item opposed to an amount of energy (that seems most logical). But usually that is more of a reference to change in temperature, which we differentiate in chemistry

Entropy in Physics [ENDORSED]

In my physics class, we are discussing entropy and manipulating the ideal gas law on a macro scale. Is there any part of entropy that is specific to chemistry and may not apply in macro life or vice versa?

Re: Why does steam cause severe burns?

100 degrees is the defining number that separates steam and water. At that point, it can increase to steam or decrease to become liquid water depending on the circumstances.

Why did hydrogen get an alarm system?
Because he kept getting robbed and had reached his molar heat capacity

Re: pH and pOH

pH is used more often because it is easier to measure the amount of H3O+ than of -OH

Re: Confused about photoelectric effect! [ENDORSED]

The "shocking" discovery they found was that no matter how much they changed/increased the intensity of the light, If the light didn't have strong enough protons (individually) to pull out the electrons (individually), the electron would not leave the metal.
