Amphoteric - BeO
Can someone explain to me why BeO is amphoteric? I would assume that it would only be a basic oxide, but the book says it is amphoteric. Why is this?

The practice midterm was given out/made by the UA Lyndon Bui (if this is the practice midterm I think that you're referring to). I would suggest going to his review session on Friday, as if he made one then it would be given out then.

You would focus on the atoms, not the number of electron pairs on each atom, as you determine if it's monodentate, bidentate etc by how many "sites" there are.

Yep! Another example would also be NH3. N would have a lone pair as well as three H atoms bonded to it. There are 4 regions of electron density and so then the hybridization of N would be sp^3

This confuses me. I would think that sulfur would be the central atom, as sulfur has a lower ionization energy than carbon.
