Re: ionic character

what is the difference between something being ionic or dipole? I found this explanation: "An ion-dipole force is a force between an ion and a polar molecule. A hydrogen bond is a dipole-dipole force and is an attraction between a slightly positive hydrogen on one molecule and a slightly negat...

If the energy of the photon is not more than or equal to the threshold energy, or energy required to eject electrons from the metal surface, than it isn't possible for the beam hitting the metal to result in electron ejection.

This value is considered neutral—neither acidic or basic. Normal, clean rain has a pH value of between 5.0 and 5.5, which is slightly acidic. However, when rain combines with sulfur dioxide or nitrogen oxides—produced from power plants and automobiles—the rain becomes much more acidic.

Yes!! All atoms want eight valence electrons. I think the only exceptions are period 3 and below because they can have expanded octets.

This is what I found:

In chemistry, a formal charge (FC) is the charge assigned to an atom in a molecule, assuming that electrons in all chemical bonds are shared equally between atoms, regardless of relative electronegativity.

Re: Coordination compounds

I found this answer: A coordination complex is the product of a Lewis acid-base reaction in which neutral molecules or anions (called ligands) bond to a central metal atom (or ion) by coordinate covalent bonds. Ligands are Lewis bases - they contain at least one pair of electrons to donate to a meta...

An atom can have up to eight electrons in its outermost shell. Noble gases (Helium, Neon, Argon, etc) have full shells; or eight valence electrons, and because they have the maximum possible amount of valence electrons in their outermost shells, they are the most stable atoms. To become stable, an a...

Re: Coefficients in electron configurations [ENDORSED]

This is the answer I found: The atomic number for Calcium is 20, so you have 20 electrons to worry about for the configuration. 1s^2 2s^2 2p^6 3s^2 3p^6 4s^2 But, for a shorter notation, you can use Argon(atomic number=18), a noble gas with a full outer shell, and add the 4s^2 to bring you to Calcium.
