Well since both shapes are linear, they have bond angles of 180 degrees.

I agree with the others. It is better to draw the dots for lone pairs and a line for bonds.

Re: Oxidation numbers
Element by itself = 0 Monatomic Ion = ion charge Group 1A = always +1 Group 2A = always +2 Halogens= usually -1, positive with oxygen Hydrogen= +1 with nonmetals -1 with metals Oxygen= usually -2, -1 with peroxide ((H2O2) Fluoride = always -1 * I recommend you to watch Tyler DeWitt in Youtube if yo...

Re: Most Important Lewis Structure
Yes, it is indeed asking for the most stable Lewis structure with a formal charge of zero (or in some cases, the closest to zero).

Re: cation vs anion
Cations are positive, which means the atom lost electrons.
Anions are negative, which means the atom gained electrons.
Anions are negative, which means the atom gained electrons.

Re: Formal charge purpose
Calculating the formal charge is important because if it adds up to 0, then the Lewis structure is the most stable.

Friday's Review Session
Did anyone attend the 3:00-3:50 review session on Friday? If so, can anyone tell me exactly what they went over? Or if you can send pictures, that would be even better. Thanks in advance (:

Re: Difference between a shell, subshell, and orbital
All electrons that have the same value for n (the principle quantum number) are in the same shell Within a shell (same n), all electrons that share the same l (the angular momentum quantum number, or orbital shape) are in the same sub-shell When electrons share the same n, l, and ml, we say they are...

I think significant figures don't matter too much as long as you have the correct answer. And if it does for tests, they will not deduct too many points.

Re: Balancing the Equation
I personally like to write the total number of each atom on both the reactant and product side on the bottom of the given equation so it can be easier for me to visualize it better. Then, I use the guess and check method & use coefficients that will make the equation balanced.
