Re: VSEPR formula with 2 central atoms

You just pick one of the N's and do the VSEPR for that molecule because it would be the same and they are both central. This video helps. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=beA1lEDKSlQ

Re: Molecular shape

Yeah do the Lewis structure first and then write out the VSEPR formula to help with the shape. The easiest way to get it is to just create a chart with all of the VSEPR formulas and shapes and commit it to memory so when you get a formula you know what shape. But you should be able to infer from the...

Re: Naming Structures

Yeah for the VSEPR model the best way is just to memorize the shapes and know the difference between the ones with lone pairs and how that changes the angle and subsequently the shape. Make a chart with all of the VSEPR formulas and the shapes and angles and that should help.

Hybridization is the concept that orbitals fuse to make new hybridized orbitals. This table might help. But you can use the VSEPR to get the hybridized formula.

I was told that angular is for one lone pair and bent is for two lone pairs because it is closer together. Is that not true?

I'm not sure if it will be provided but I would memorize it just in case. Formal charge = [# of valence electrons] – [electrons in lone pairs + 1/2 the number of bonding electrons]

Re: HW Problem 2.2 [ENDORSED]

If an electron absorbs energy from a photon, it could get excited and move up to a higher energy shell. If an electron drops down to a lower energy shell it loses energy. So if an electron is moving up to a higher subshell then it is absorbing/gaining energy.

Re: Wave properties of electrons

Constructive interference is waves in phase and they have the same sign for amplitude and thus when the waves meet they line up at the crests and create a wave with higher amplitude. Destructive interference is waves out of phase and the crest of one wave meets the trough of another, essentially dis...

Discrete just means that there is a finite number as opposed to a continuous amount. In regards to chemistry, we describe energy as being transferred in discrete units or packets.

Frequency is how many waves pass by in a second while wavelength is the distance between two crests. Amplitude is related to how much energy a wave has. High energy waves have high amplitude and low energy waves have low amplitude.

Hi! So this question is a determining solute concentration, so you will start by using the equation M(initial)*V(initial) = M(final)*V(final). With the measurements that you are given, plug in the values and then use systems of equations to get the mass of silver nitrate.

Hi! For this problem you convert the percentages to grams and then divide by the mass of each element. For example 5.19 g H * 1 mol H/1.008 g H.
