Re: higher polarizability

This is because the smaller cation has a higher positive charge, as such the electron pull is much stronger.

The central atom is O because it has the least ionization energy.

Re: Strength of Bonds

I don't believe we do but usually the more bonds there are, the shorter each bond is and the stronger they are altogether.

Re: Is it best to memorize electronegativity?

I believe Professor said that we should just have an idea of electronegativity, but not necessarily the exact values. However a basic rule is the farther elements are from each other on the periodic table, the more the electronegative difference is.

Re: Formal Charge

Since the octet rule is not universal, it's better to have the formal charge be 0.

Re: bound atoms vs separate atoms

Free moving atoms tend to be more unstable because they have a higher potential energy. As such, bound atoms are more stable because their potential energy is lower.

Re: Formal Charge

I agree, usually the central atom has a charge of 0 in order for it to be more stable.

Covalent bonds are longer because they are weaker than ionic bonds (ionic would be shorter).

I believe Schrodinger's equation was just gone over for us to have a conceptual understanding, but I do not believe we will have calculations based on it.

I would definitely recommend quizlet for conceptual questions. For practical questions I would recommend khanacademy and chemwiki.
