Re: Drawing Lewis Structures on the Final Exam

The bond angles without lone pairs need to be accurate but as you add lone pair repulsion it becomes impossible to know exact angle so you can only say less than x degrees. I think

Since it is relative, Do all covalent bonds exhibit some degree of polar nature even if difference in electronegativity is below .4? And if so, do they have dipoles still(just negligible)

Re: in class example bf^3 [ENDORSED]

Since Boron "wants" 3 electrons when doing formal charge, and you only count 1 from each bond, boron needs 3 bonds to be the most stable.

Re: OCTET RULE [ENDORSED]

The octet rule just refers to the atoms wanting 8 electrons in order to become stable, but there are many exceptions to this rule when you reach the d orbital, or the 3rd row.

Re: Significance of intensity [ENDORSED]

When the energy of the photon is equal or greater than the threshold energy, then an electron can be ejected. By increasing intensity, you are increasing photons, so if and only if we can meet the threshold energy can increasing intensity result in more electrons being ejected.
