Will we need to know the shapes of the different orbitals? ie how p is a dumbbell shape or s is spherically shaped?

Re: Order of Orbitals

The orbitals are differentiated in terms of their relative energy, s having the lowest and f having the highest (s<p<d<f).

Re: Special Orbitals

I think there are two anomalous configurations when an element fills the orbital 'abnormal': chromium and copper which do not seem to fit the pattern. Chromium is energetically more stable to have 3d5 then pair up the 4s orbital ((Ar)4s1 3d5). Copper has extra stability due to a full set of 3d orbit...

Electrons have a mass but in comparison to protons and neutrons in an atom, they will not affect the total mass I think.

Re: Rydberg equation

The Rydberg Equation is used to find the wavelengths of all the spectral lines in the emission spectrum of hydrogen, for example the wavelength of light which moves between n=2 and n=4.

Re: Series Question

We looked at the Hydrogen spectral series which accounts for the transition of electrons between different energy levels in an atom. The hydrogen spectrum consists of a series of lines of different colours (violet, blue, green and red) in the visible region of the spectrum. The Lyman series correspo...

Re: Temperature

The most common form of measurement is Celsius, Kelvin is almost used in relation with celsius as it is an absolute scale meaning that it indicates the temperature at which molecules stop moving (0K = absolute zero).

Re: writing out conversions in one long line vs. steps

I find it easier to break the problem in multiple steps as it reduces any room for error and makes it easier to understand the question.

Re: Volume V Density [ENDORSED]

Volume is the amount of space a substance takes up. On the other hand, the density is the mass of an object divided by the object's volume.

Also if it helps, g/mol = mass (in grams) / number of moles (mol) - lending itself to the correct units of the molar mass

Re: Balancing equations with fractions [ENDORSED]

Also it is easier to use whole numbers as it would be simpler to decipher the mole ratio between reactants and products.
