Is there a breakdown of how many problems on the final will be from each section? Like the amount from weeks 1-3 etc..

Re: Bond Lengths

Triple are smaller than double, double smaller than single, however in reality because of resonance all of the bonds in the molecule will be about the same on average, just smaller the more multiply bonded it is.

Single bonds are the longest, then double then triple.

Re: Dipole-Induced Dipole

Basically, if a molecule is polar, when it approaches neutral atoms or molecules and repel their electrons. In doing so they gain an induced dipole with a relatively positive side closest to the negative side of a polar molecule.

SO2 Lewis Structure

In class today Lavelle said that the structure was o=s=o, but shouldn't it actually be o-s=o, since it has a net FC of 0 and follows the octet rule?

Elements we have to memorize for the Midterm

Are there any elements we need to memorize the entire electron configurations for? I was in a review session and overheard that we might and now I am unsure if there are.

Resonance structures on the midterm

Will we need to draw all of the possible resonance structures on the midterm or just state that there is resonance and only draw the lewis structure once?

I would email your TA to be sure, but I think that we are allowed to do problems that are practice for the exam as well as the future week.

The reference sheet given for all of the exams is the same one as we had for the first test. It was the first page of the test last time.

Re: Test 2

I believe the second test will be on what we are doing now in class rather than what was on the first test, however there could be problems where the knowledge from the first test is used with a connection to newer concepts.

Re: How does grading for discussion posts work?

How does our TA know if we posted? Were we supposed to give them our username? I think its more of a general grading system, I was never asked by my TA for a username so I think they use your UID and the system just checks if you've posted within the deadline. Not 100% on this but so far it seems t...

Re: Note Taking

I would recommend hand written note taking in class. For the most part this is due to the many equations and graphs that he uses during lectures. For me, writing equations on google docs is a hassle and not worth the extra effort when compared to just hand writing it inside a notebook.

How do the post hw points work

I am in a discussion on Tuesday, does that mean that I need to post 3 times between last Friday and tomorrow, or is it due at the end of each week?

I believe we are supposed add the state of matter when balancing and writing chemical equations (writing the abbreviation next to the compound), but I'm pretty sure that the state of matter becomes more important later on in the year.

It may depend on how late in the week your discussion is, but my TA said that it could be either the Quantum section or the Fundamentals section.

Hi, I'm just wondering what exactly needs to be written on the homework we are turning in, like do we need page numbers and questions or just written work and the answer?
