Anode half reaction is on the left side of the double line with the molecule losing electrons on the left side of the single line. The cathode half reaction is on the right side of the double line with the molecule gaining the electrons on the left side of the single line.

“Gonic” refers to change in Gibbs free energy and “thermic” refers to change in enthalpy. When delta G is less that 0 it is spontaneous and exergonic and when it is greater than 0 it is not spontaneous and endergonic

I noticed in the solutions manual that pt was added when there were 2 aqueous solutions in the anode or cathode. And when there was one gas and one aqueous solution.

Example 19.14 (6th edition)
In this example in the textbook the first step of solving the problem was finding the standard enthalpy of formation in which they multiplied by the number of moles. However, when they applied the value they found into Gibb’s equation, they multiplied by the number of miles again. Why is that?

To expand on the previous two replies, the book gave the example of argon which has a constant volume heat capaccitg of 12.8, so when using the equation, you get 12.8 + 8.3= 21.1 for the constant pressure value. That is 65% greater than the constant volume value.

Other than understanding, when given the Ka/Kb, the greater the Ka(or Kb) the stronger than acid then it is just best to memorize them. And since there aren't many it should be easy and soon enough you'll be able to easily identify a strong acid or base.

I believe he still prefers if we use the term "favors." So, when more reactant is added to a reaction, more product will form so the reaction will favor the products.

An increase in the equilibrium constant suggests the reaction is favoring the products. In order to produce more product, the reaction requires heat which makes it endothermic

I understood that the homework for week 1 was due in Friday after lecture. Is the second week of homework due during discussion? So if I have discussion on Tuesday, is it due Tuesday for me?
