Problem 6N.7 Part A (7th Edition)

In the solutions manual, it says that the half-oxidation equation is Cu2+ + 2e- >> Cu. Why is it not Cu >> Cu2+ + 2e- ?

Problem 6N.1 Part B

Can someone explain to me why n=2 instead of one? I'm a bit confused because there is only one electron for both half-reduction reactions.

Standard Cell Potential

In Lecture, Dr. Lavelle said that we shouldn't really use the equation that simply finds the difference between the cell potential of the cathode and the cell potential of the anode, but I forgot the reason why. Can someone explain it to me please?

Cathode and Anode

Can someone explain to me why a cathode is always paired with the reduction reaction and why an anode is paired with the oxidation reaction? IS is because a reduction reaction gains an electron and an oxidation reaction loses an electron?

Definitions

Will we need to know the definition statements for enthalpy, entropy, etc. for the midterm. Or should we focus more on the equations/formulas?

Just to confirm about Hess' Law, to calculate the total change in heat, we add the balanced equations and change of heat of both reactions?

Re: Quadratic Equations

The two possible answers for X are usually one negative and one positive solution. Always use the positive value because it is impossible to have a negative concentration.
