Re: TEST 3
You don't need the formula; count how many electrons are associated with an element and subtract the number of electrons from the number of valence electrons of that element.

You might be given a certain PH and asked to find the concentration or it could be the other way around. You might also be asked about POH which is similar except it involves the concentration of OH- instead of H+.

Re: HF
The strength of an acid depends on how it dissociates in water. The bond between hydrogen and fluorine is strong so there isn't a high concentration of H3O+ ions, meaning it doesn't dissociate as much as other strong acids would.

if the number of atoms of each element is not the same on both the reactants and the products side, the law of conservation of mass would be violated.

The farther two elements are on the periodic table, the more electronegativity difference between them.

yes, you'll be provided with the electronegativities needed to answer such a question, eventhough you could probably make a pretty accurate guess based on whether the elements are metals/nonmetals and such.

You could use E=hv and E=hc/wavelength for light, but de Broglie's equation only applies to particles (even though it was derived from equations for light).

Larger atomic radii lead to more effective shielding of electrons , which means less electrostatic attraction. This leads to a weaker bond.

Yes, Z refers to atomic number. That's why the textbook sometimes says that the nucleus of an atom of x element has +Ze charge because the atomic number is also the number of protons in the nucleus.
