Re: Review question

the answer key says c-o, but the explanation doesn't sound right. It says that since o is the smallest, but both n and c are smaller, so I really don't know.

Re: Prefix bis, tris, tetrakis, etc. [ENDORSED]

Di-, tri-, and tetra- should be used for multiple monodentate ligands while bis-, tris-, tetrakis- would be used for for multiple polydentate ligands. What is a monodentate ligand and what's a polydentate ligand? I don't understand the difference. Monodentate ligands have one e- donor to bind with ...

The hybridized and unhybridized bonds also help with the shape. Not the shape of the molecule per se but the shape including the electrons (lone pairs and shared)

Re: Single Regions?

I was looking through the notes and I wrote that single, double, and triple bonds are considered single regions of electron density in VSEPR model, but what does single regions mean in terms of electron density? I think a single region is just a bond (doesn't matter single, double, or triple bond) ...

Re: 6th edition, 3.19b

That is 3.19e but to answer your question, we need to look at Hund's Rule. We need to fill each orbital one by one, so: In d orbital, there are 5 orbitals, so the first 5 electrons go to each orbital, then the remaining 3 goes to the first 3 orbitals. The last two orbitals are left with a single ele...

Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle was created for very small masses, such as atoms and electrons. For example, in the example he gave us with sensors, the photons thrown changes the direction of an electron, but a photon cannot move you, or a baseball, or a fly.

Re: Wavelengths

Wavelengths are lengths, so if there is a direction given, they could have a negative value but distance-wise no. It is the same for every length.
Example: You can say -10 meters east (10 meters west)
Example: You cannot say I walked -10 meters.
Same goes for wavelengths.

Re: Wavelength vs Frequency

I know that frequency and intensity are different but that's not the question. A wave has a frequency (time needed) and a wavelength, so they are related to each other; The distance between peaks of a wave is its wavelength. Frequency (unit = hertz) is the number of waves that pass in a given time. ...
