This can be further explained why you can do this equation in pages 457-458 of the textbook! IT shows you how it works

less dissociation => less H30+ produced=> higher pH!

Re: Intra vs Intermolecular forces

Intramolecular forces are harder to break! You are actually breaking a BOND rather than a force of attraction

Re: Memorizing Acids and Bases [ENDORSED]

Also, usually you can tell if it is a bigger molecule and only dissociates partly e.g. CH3COOH, it will be a weaker base

I think for this question it is best to just memorize the different shapes and whether it has one lone pair or two lone pairs etc.

Another good tip
Single bond : sigma bond
Double bond: sigma and pi bond
Triple bond : sigma and two pi bonds

Re: Resonance Structures

I was wondering if for resonance structures do you need to have the same element of atom surrounding the central atom? And can there be more than one double bond for resonance to occur? In all the examples we have looked at and some I have looked at online, there seems to be only one double bond in...

Re: Polar v. Non Polar

I was wondering does polarity always have to do with the symmetry of the molecule or are there exceptions? I think symmetry plays a role in guessing whether the molecule is polar or not, but you also have to consider the electronegativities of the atom as this is really important. There are probabl...

Re: Induced Dipole Meaning

I will try my best! Induced dipole means that when atoms of an element that are bonded together e.g F-F , because there will always be partial positive and partial negative charges going on within the element, one atom with partial charges can induce the atoms bonded around it to have partial charge...

Bond angles are caused by the laws of electron repulsion theory, and atoms that interact around a central atom they are all bonded to orientate themselves to produce the most stable structure
