Does anybody know a fool proof way of ordering cations and anions according to their polarizability and their polarizing power? My TA said that for cations we can determine it thoughh the atomic radii then the charges, but which one takes precedence? And for anions do we need to focus on the charges...

When making a VSEPR, is really that important that we get the corrext resonance? I know that it shows it as the most stable structure, but aren't double and triple bonds just treated as one region of electron denisty?

My TA went over this today and basically he said that a safe rule is for the 5th domain (like see-saw and t-shaped) you place lone pairs in the equatorial, and for the 6th domain (square pyramidal and square planar) you place them in the axial.

Today at the first review session, Gail kind of made this chart where she put the energy levels, put the corresponding orbitals next to it in a row, and then proceeded to draw diagonal arrows. I don't really understand what that meant, so could somebody explain it again please?

Why does the equation in the textbook say delta(p)delta(x)=h/2, but in the lecture notes, Dr. Lavelle uses h/4pi? Is there a difference? Which should I use?

I'm going over the notes from Monday's lecture, and I noticed that in the vitamin c example he did, when trying to find the mass of the elements after finding the mass percentage of each, he used 100g as the sample mass. Will we always do this with these problems, unless we're told otherwise?
