Re: Octet Expansion

up to period 2 elements, the electrons can only fill s and p orbitals which is why they can only pair up to 8 electrons. but starting from period 3, there is a d orbital that goes beyond just the s and p orbital which is why if the first two subshells are full, electrons can fill the d subshell, cre...

if we know what bond contains sigma/pi bonds, what are some usage of these bonds? like what can we calculate about the bond/molecule using the number of sigma and pi bonds?

when we try to determine the shape of a given molecule, do we also have to know the hybridization of it or can we just look at the bonded electrons and lone pairs and figure it out?

Re: Negative Signs

the E resulting from this equation should be negative because you are going from a higher E level to a lower E level, during which E is given off as light, so the loss of E as photons are expressed through the negative sign

in these problems the actual yield should be given (because you can't conduct the experiment by yourself and figure that value out) and the theoretical yield is the amount of the product that you deduce from the given equation!

Re: Threshold Energy

Threshold Energy is the minimum required amount of E that a photon should contain for the photon to release an electron from the metal surface. The threshold E + E of the electron is equal to the E of the photon. As explained in the lecture, if the electron's E is 0, that means that the photon's E w...

units during dimensional analysis

I do know that it is easier and less confusing if we write down and cancel out all of our units when calculating with dimensional analysis but does this also apply to when we're using the Avogadros number or any other dimension in the future that contains complicated units?
