So I'm in 14B but this is my first 14 series class (I came from 20A) so I fail to understand how Lavelle's homework system works. How do I know what my homework problems are supposed to be on because he doesn't specify most of the time

Curve?

So the syllabus says that a 50% is required o pass the class with at least a C- but at the same time, "there's no curve" is what I've been hearing from most students so if I have a 75% in the class it'll remain the same but if I get a 50% it'll jump up to 70%?

T will mostly affect free energy only. One might think that it also changes enthalpy because the addition of heat will change the forward/irreversible reactions of an equation but the change is minimal

Re: Units for Gibbs

Doesn't matter as long as it is easy to read (ie Don't have it in joules if you just have it look neater in kj like 10 kJ instead of 10000J) cause the point of science is to be universal and for our data to be easily read and interpreted

Re: Gibb's free energy Units

Either is fine as long as you're careful as to keeping them constant throughout the calculation because I've noticed that the textbook tends to give enthalpy in terms of kJ and Entropy in J so when you're adding them to get Gibbs Free energy make sure they're the same

Re: Stable vs Unstable

I think stability is based on the use of energy. The universe favors disorder as we've learned from entropy therefore the larger the entropy the more negative our Gibbs free energy gets. That's why if our Gibbs free energy is negative it's stable because its spontaneous meaning that the universe pre...

Surface area and heat capacity [ENDORSED]

Wouldn’t it be easier for a solid to heat up if the surface area is larger? I keep thinking about baking. It’s easier to bake the bread if the mold is less deep and the surface area is increased given the same amount of dough
