Today in the review session, they said that when in the same row, charge becomes the determinant of which one is greater.

Formula from Name

I might have missed this in lecture, but will we be expected to come up with a chemical formula based on the element's name?

Final

Based on the final review session pdf, I understood that the final will be completely composed of homework problems. Is this correct?

Rotations and Shape

Since we know that shape changing in σ-bonds is possible due to the rotations, will we need to know how many rotations occurred?

3.11 6th Edition

Which M3 ions (where M is a metal) are predicted to have the following ground-state electron configurations: (a) [Ar]3d6 (b) [Ar]3d5
Can someone explain why a is Co3+ and b is Fe3+?

I would say number of valence electrons because then we have figure out how to distribute them, which gives us our formal charge.

Which Equation Do I Use?

When going over the photoelectric effect, we were given two equations: E=hv-work and 1/2mv^2=hv-work. How do we know which one to use for certain problems? Based on the examples I have seen, I understand how to do it but not why we use a certain equation for a certain part?

It is towards the end of the textbook. You need to skip the section that says answers and go to "Odd-Numbered Exercises." It starts on page C10.

This might be redundant, but if there are four subparts (a,b,c,d) for one problem, it still only counts for the credit of one problem right? It is not as if I did four different ones?

Decimals After Whole Numbers

In class, we saw an example where the number "100." had 3 significant figures. Does the fact that there is a decimal point after change the sig fig in any way?
