I would say number of valence electrons because then we have figure out how to distribute them, which gives us our formal charge.

Which Equation Do I Use?
When going over the photoelectric effect, we were given two equations: E=hv-work and 1/2mv^2=hv-work. How do we know which one to use for certain problems? Based on the examples I have seen, I understand how to do it but not why we use a certain equation for a certain part?

It is towards the end of the textbook. You need to skip the section that says answers and go to "Odd-Numbered Exercises." It starts on page C10.

In class, we saw an example where the number "100." had 3 significant figures. Does the fact that there is a decimal point after change the sig fig in any way?
