The wording in the question should give hints on what units the answer should be in. Since the questions vary so much, it's difficult to pick one unit for all of your answers, so it's best to check what the question is asking for. :)

By writing g.mol -1 , it keeps the units on a single line and can reduce confusion about which units are on the numerator and denominator, especially as units get more complex. Both g.mol -1 and g/mol are the same and can be used interchangeably. I don't think you will be penalized if you choose one...
