If you're talking about PV = nRT I don't know how you would find out if the moles are from the initial or the final, but you will be able to use it to find the moles overall.

I don't think you'll need to memorize this as much versus other material in the book. This is more of a concept to understand and can be done by looking up one of many periodic tables that define trends online. Just memorize the trends across the periodic table in case a problem is given of it.

I feel that by now one should know the basic molecule formulas and have the ability to write out the compound if for example it says "tri, di, etc." For ionic compounds, I'm not sure, but it never hurts to practice it (Still, I'm sure he'll give us the formulas in the end).

While I am also a student and cannot know for sure, I think it is safe to assume that anything taught in class is fair game on the test. Personally, I find it important to study it simply to have it in your memory, never hurts to know the periodic table a bit better.

Resonance has to do with the ability of a compound to have interchangeable bonds or different means of creating its lewis structure. NO3 is a perfect example in that it can form a double bond with any of its oxygens.

Usually you solve for the theoretical yield using the limiting reactant, which is then divided by the actual yield, then multiplied by 100%. The actual yield is usually given.

Honestly I feel the same way when engaging in reading, but I find study groups make the experience more bearable. When I'm with a few committed friends I feel relaxed and motivated to finish the readings. Plus, if you don't get something you can just ask them on the spot to discuss key ideas.

For instance, when finding mass ratios I would divide an assumed amount of Hydrogen by its atomic weight; should I divide by 1 or its actual weight of 1.007 (I've seen both actions performed in a discussion)? These questions tend to deal a lot with assumptions so insight would help me a ton.

Honestly the advice that an upperclassman gave me, doing a few problems a night(like 5-10, or build up to it), keeps me the loop during discussion and lecture. Simply start applying now so that the test seems less intimidating and you understand the lecture more when new material presents itself.
