Re: Amplitude

If you want a more physical approach to the relationship between amplitude to that of frequency and wavelength, then I suggest attempting 1A. 3. It is on page 9 and after solving it, I understand the concepts much more.

Re: Numbers to memorize [ENDORSED]

Currently, you may be worried that memorizing them will be too much. But most likely you'll have them memorized naturally after many homework problems and review sessions. But how everyone mentioned, they will be on the cover page of every exam.

Re: Equations We’ve Learned So Far

The responses to this post are really helpful. I was looking at my notes but they were somewhat disorganized. This is what I needed for understanding the recent equations from the lectures, so thank you.

Re: Sig Figs at the Beginning or End

The point is to stay really close to the number you got by rounding, in the early stages of the problem. Dr. Lavelle briefly mentioned in class. The number being divided determines sig figs in answer.

Re: How to find my posts

Is there a way to access the lecture powerpoints because I wanted to screenshot one of the images and print it out for reference in my notes. From my understanding, Dr. Lavelle hasn't commented on where to retrieve any of the lecture power points. Your best bet will be to neatly write them out and ...

Yes, you go to the top right and click on your username->click on control panel->click on overview->go to the bottom of the page and it should say something like "My Posts."

Re: Speed of Light

This is also something that I was considering. Using the constant as 2.998*10^8 m/s, the book gives two examples of determining wavelengths on page 5. I was wondering why they didn't give any background information on the constant? But overall the responses were helpful.

Re: Limiting Reactants or Reagents Module

I do not remember what he said in the lecture. However, something that helped me was reading the examples done in the assigned readings. And after the example, there will be a small list of similar problems in the exercise section. You can find this at the end of the completed problem. It will say s...

Re: Avogadro's Number?

If you are not sure when to use Avogadro's number I recommend solving E17. The number will be used in part c of the question and could potentially give you a better understanding. Hope this helps!

Understanding equations

Are we expected to understand how to write out equations before we balance them? For example, questions such as M.7 and M.9 in the limiting reactants section of the homework. Copper(2) nitrate reacts with sodium hydroxide to produce a precipitate of light blue copper(2) hydroxide. Write the net ioni...

Re: Advice from a Medical Student - Part II [ENDORSED]

This is some really valuable advice, so thank you. I've always been curious about medical school, and this post helped a ton. I think this is important because it allows students to understand better what they're getting themselves into with STEM. Also, what advice do you have for those that want to...

Re: Homework Week 1

There are 5 homework problems due which you can attain from the course website. As for how they are going to be graded, I think it will be useful for the graders to understand the step by step process you went through for the answer. Also, if it helps, complete problems from most sections to better ...

Re: Fundamentals M5 [ENDORSED]

The reactant in excess is BrF3. Take the supplied mol of this reactant and subtract it with the consumed mol to figure out the remaining moles in excess. This is my understanding from F99 in the book.
