The answer to part a is CH3CO2K, potassium acetate. part b is (NH4)3P04, ammonium phosphate. part c is Ca(BrO2)2, calcium bromite. Part d is Na2S, sodium sulfide.

I have a shortcut for H O N C. If Hydrogen has 1 bond, oxygen 2, nitrogen 3, carbon 4 then the formal charges will be 0.

On test 2, we were asked to label sigma and pi bonds. I only knew that sigma bonds were for single bonds and double bonds had pi bonds. Can someone explain how we were supposed to label them?

When calculating the molar mass of 2 moles , I calculated the 14.0067 x 4 because I thought it was equivalent to 4 nitrogen atoms. Can someone explain why I'm wrong please? I know now that the molar mass should have been just 14.0067 x 2.

The atomic radius generally increases from right to left across a group. It also normally increases top to bottom within a group. I use the periodic table and the inverse relationship between atomic radius and ionization energy to help with ionization energy problems.

The acronym HONC helps me with bonds. Hydrogen (H) prefers 1 bond, Oxygen (O) prefers 2 bonds, Nitrogen (N) prefers 3 bonds, and Carbon (C) prefers 4 bonds.

I also find that attempting to do the homework and then looking at the book when you are stuck has worked better for me than simply reading the book before doing homework problems.
