So for some homework problems, they only give you the name of the molecules and not the actual formula. Would this be the case on exams as well because I am stuck having to look up these molecules to find the formulas? Would you recommend me memorizing the prefixes that determine the number of atoms...

Re: Rydberg Equation

I would say not to use this equation because he doesn’t like it. Instead use: E= ((-hR)/(n2)^2)-((-hR)/(n1)^2) and then get whatever you’re looking for alone. However this will only work for the Hydrogen atom so read the question carefully before starting. Hope this helps (:

Re: Double bond placement

You can basically put them anywhere as long as they satisfy the octet rule (there are some elements that are exceptions to this because they have an expanded octet) meaning they have 8 valence electrons in the outer most shell after bonding with other atoms

Re: Exceptions

If the element has an empty d orbital, then it can expand, which causes it to have more than 8 electrons in the valence shell. These elements can be found in the 3rd period of the p block

In real life, yes, the temperature will determine if the reaction goes to completion. If the temperature doesn’t reach the point that you need it to be for the reaction to work then some compounds might not react to what you add in the solution.

You never want to balance it first because you don’t want to balance an element that is alone. It will be harder to work around the oth...

What a good question! This is where significant figures come into play. When you write 30 g, you are only allowed to use 2 significant figures to answer the question versus 30.0 g which allows you to write 3 sig figs. Also writing 30.0 g makes the measurement more precise and shows you that it is ex...

Personally I think it’s easier to just write g/mol instead of g*mol^-1. But it’s good to know both ways because not everyone writes it like that.
