On Outline 6, one of the bulletpoints states 'Explain how the collision model and activated complex model account for the temperature dependence of reactions'. I was wondering if someone could clarify what the activated complex model is and how it accounts for the temperature dependence of reactions?

I don't think that we will be asked to derive the rate equations on an exam, but it is important that we understand the derivations as it can help us better understand the equations.

I view Workshops as a time for students who already understand the material to get more practice and Step-Up sessions as being for students who may need clarification on class material/step-by-step help on how to approach problems!

A lot of people take 14BL and 14C together and then 14CL and 14D together, but you can definitely finish 14A-D first before taking the labs, as I know some people who took that route as well! It really depends on what other classes you're taking each quarter and what works best for your schedule.

I totally feel you on this! I think the best pieces of advice I can give are to get as much practice as possible and watch Youtube videos to make sure you understand all of the topics in each of the outlines. Wishing everyone the best of luck on Test 2 and the Final! We can do this :)

Based on the exams from last quarter, the midterm will be all free-response and will probably have around 7-8 questions, each question consisting of multiple parts that relate to one another. Hope this helps and best of luck studying!

Some TAs do give out worksheets in discussion while others don't. However, if you're looking for additional practice, the UAs sometimes have worksheets in their sessions, especially as we approach the midterm and final!

The material will probably cover everything we have learned and will learn up to thermodynamics(?) Also, there were a ton of review sessions last quarter before the midterm & final led by TA's and UA's that were super helpful so I believe they will be happening this quarter as well!

The tests are free-response and this one will be worth 50 points. There are usually 6-8 problems and to study I've found it really helpful to do a lot of homework problems from the textbook and watch The Organic Chemistry Tutor on Youtube for more clarification and even more practice problems!

Do they check every Sunday or at the end? I think it depends on TA, if you have a number that isn't 0 in your gradebook, then your TA is checking weekly! If not, then they will probably check at the end of the quarter. It doesn't hurt to ask if your TA if you want to know your grade right now though!

Since the Midterm Review sessions covered material all past material (even Fundamentals, which we had already been tested on in Test 1), I think the Review Sessions for the Final will be the same, but with more emphasis on stuff covered most recently that we have not been tested on yet!

The Octet Rule states that elements usually bond so that each atom has a full electron shell (which is 8 electrons). This happens because atoms with a full electron shell are the most stable. Hope this helped!

Yes a structure is most stable when its formal charge is 0! However this is not always possible, so the closer a formal charge is to 0 the more stable it is.

Actual yields will be less than theoretical yields due to side reactions that can occur, some products could stick to the sides of the reaction container, and impurities that are bound to happen during almost all chemical reactions. Hope this was helpful/answered your question!
