Re: acid v. base?

You can distinguish them by figuring out which one accepts proton and which one donates proton.

Re: pH of acids

The pH value is like a scale. From 0 to 14 it goes from more acid to more basic.

Re: Value of pH

Yes, pH value can go below 0 and go above 14, but I think the negative pH is not our class focus.

Re: strong or weak base?

They can be distinguished by the level that they ionize in water. Strong base tends to be ionized more in water.

Higher electronegativity means stronger attraction, which leads to more polarized and more stable.

I will recommend drawing all of them just in case though most stable ones should be fine.

Re: How to know where a double bond should go?

Most time the double bond can go with any atom (mainly the central atom) in the structure as long as it meets the octant rule.

Re: Rusty on High School Chem [ENDORSED]

Well, the first week I feel like we just went over the general chem in high school (not ap chem), but I DO think you need to know some basic concepts in chemistry in order not to make your life so hard in 14A. The best thing to do would be taking a diagnostic test and see how you feel about learning...

Re: Writing Empirical Formulas

The order of the elements is not that important in this kind of question. As long as you get the ratio of the mass of every element correct, I think you will be fine.

Should I take sig figs while I am calculating one problem step by step? Should I use sig figs every step or should I just consider the sig figs on the very last calculation?

Re: All students read this sig fig post [ENDORSED]

I can easily get confused when I am trying to figure out the sig figs in the calculation of mole/mass using molar mass. Should I just consider the number of sig figs depending on the numbers in the molar mass?

Re: Sig Figs of Mass Percentage Composition?

I think for emperial and molecular formula it doesn't really matter. I would take as many as possible( like 5-6 sig figs) cause in order to get a more accurate ratio, the more accurate your numbers are, the more accurate your ratio between moles will be.
