Re: Sig Figs at the Beginning or End
If there's multiple addition/subtraction and multiplication/division steps, I try to keep a higher number of sig figs than what I need for the problem. So if the final answers need 2, I might try to keep 4 sig figs so that way, when I go through all the math, the final answer won't be rounded too mu...

Re: Question 1.A.11
If you look in the textbook in 1A, they say that "The Balmer series consists of the lines with n1=2 (and n2=3,4, ....). The Lyman series is a set of lines in the ultraviolet region of the spectrum with n(1)=1 (and n2+2, 3, ...)" so I think it has to do with what energy level the electron s...

Re: Rydberg equation [ENDORSED]
Can someone help me understand why we use the Rydberg equation? The Rydberg equation is used to calculate the energy of an electron at a certain principle quantum level of an atom. We'll usually use it in problems where we're asked to calculate the change in energy, frequency, or velocity that occu...

Re: Rydberg equation [ENDORSED]
What does the Energy value that we calculate in the Rydberg's Equation represent? The energy of the emitted EMR? or the energy (gained or lost) of the electron as it is moving between discreet energy levels? Or is it the same? I believe the energy value calculated in the Rydberg's Equation represen...
