Re: Question 2A9

Yes, they do not notate 4s in the configuration because they took 2 electrons out, to give it a 2+ charge. As stated earlier, they took the electrons out of 4s because it is farther from the nucleus compared to 3d. So it would be harder to take 2 electrons from the d-block compared to the s-block. ...

Re: octet exceptions

Molecules that have exceptions to the octet rule are molecules with an odd number of electrons (ex. NO) , molecules in which an atom or more than one atom have more than 8 electrons (ex. SF6) , and molecules in which an atom or more than one atom have less than 8 electrons (ex. BCl3) . thank you!!!

It says on Monday and Tuesday (Nov 4 and 5) that there are review sessions for bonding/structures. There are 4 of them just for bonding/structures so does that mean they are all going to be the same or are they going to go over different stuff/different examples? im sure itll be different examples,...

Yes, they have the same number of electrons; however, each ion's atomic number is different. This causes varying effective nuclear charges within each ion. For example, for the chlorine ion, the nuclear charge is greater compared to the phosphorus ion and sulfur ion. Despite having the same number ...

Re: Relationship between Electronegativity and Ionization Energy?

What is the relationship between electronegativity and ionization energy? I know Dr. Lavelle said that the atom with the lowest ionization energy is the central atom for a lewis structure, but in high school I learned that the central atom was the most electronegative atom. Is the atom with the low...
