I think its the one with the lowest energy and ive been hearing that we also have to draw all the resonance structures but I remember Lavelle saying that he would take any structure.

its essentially H-N-C-C-O-H with an hydrogen connected to the 1st carbon on the lewis structure and on the second carbon a double bond forms with oxygen. the first nitrogen also has a single bond with a hydrogen.

in the book it says, "the total Coulomb potential energy V(r) is the sum of the individual coulombic attractions and repulsions." Hope this helps.

to give it an octect, the Br is surrounded by 3 F with single bonds. F will have 6 electrons around them and Br will have 2 paired electrons. thats how they all form an octect.

for a, its an ionic compound not a molecular as expected because there exists exceptions to the nonmetal-metal ionic compound. On the lewis structure you would connect with lines the covalent bonds since they are sharing the electrons.

I think its more based on electronegativity. Coordinate covalent bonds between two main group elements are more polar and sensitive to phase changes than normal covalent bonds. Sorry, hope this helps!

It's when the electrons of the anion are attracted to the cation, therefore causing the shape of the electron density to change.

Yes, it essentially follows the radii trend on the periodic table, so up the rows and to the right on the columns polarizing power decreases. Hope this helps!

Im not sure what problem you are referring to because 2b. 23 asks to "Determine the formal charge on each atom in the following molecules. Identify the structure of lower energy in each pair."

I remember Dr. Lavelle saying something about if the problem had resonance structures, then we could draw which ever structure we wanted and it would count. I would draw the most stable one though and show that there are more resonance structures. Hope this helps!
