Re: Units
I'm sure that it is important that you know the proper SI units for each term because there will be many problems which can be solved by canceling out, thus helping you find a corresponding answer for that problem in the simplest form.

Re: Wavelengths
Yes, I think the threshold energy and the energy required are the same, and this energy is also called the working function.

Re: Energy
Also, how does the electron go back to it's ground state after it is in an excited state?

Re: Molecular formula
If this information is given, this also means that you must find the empirical formula beforehand, and then find the molecular formula.

Re: Photons and electrons
When given the work function, just think of it as a particular threshold that the energy of the photon must meet or exceed. If that threshold is met, then that implies that there is enough energy to eject the electron.

Re: Mass % comp accuracy F5
I think a slight difference in the solution you get versus the solution that is given shouldn't be too much of a problem. As long as they both roughly round up to about the same answer it should be fine(that is if the solution is within decimal form).

Re: HW E. 1
Like the problem being discussed here, will other problems also display the radius rather than the diameter? Also why doesn't the problem directly display the diameter instead?

Re: Difference between empirical and molecular formulas
Yeah, whats easiest for me to distinguish between the two is to note that the molecular formula is a multiple of its corresponding empirical formula, so the empirical formula basically tells the most simplified version of the ratio of atoms present.

Re: Why do we always need grams when solving a problem?
Using grams is essential because the unit of measurement for a molar mass consists of grams per mole. Therefore, given a mass measured in grams as well as a corresponding molar mass, enables you to find the mole of an element/compound. So this would make it much more simple to make a conversion betw...

Re: Ionic vs Covalent
Ionic bonds are stronger than covalent bonds due to the fact that they involve the transfer of electrons rather than an equal sharing of electrons, which occurs within covalent bonds, and usually, more energy is required to dissociate ionic bonds.
