Re: Passing Grade

That's how I originally interpreted it too, but when asked my TA clarified that only a 50% or better is required to pass with a C-, so I'm pretty sure that's true.

Re: Conjugate Base of a Strong Acid

To my knowledge, they would be able to deprotonate water, but to a very small extent. The conjugate base of a strong acid will be weak, so the rate at which the base will deprotonate water will be extremely low.

Re: Plans for Relaxing After Finals

I'm gonna try to pick up more hours at work to keep myself busy. Maybe apply for some internships if I'm really up to it, but I'll probably just end up spending time with friends and family, as much as can be allowed at least.

Re: Curve

I haven't heard anything official in terms of a curve, so I wouldn't be surprised if our raw scores made up our official grades. Based on past years, though, there might be a small curve with a few points, but considering the class averages for this year I'm not really sure.

Re: Calculating grade

Yeah, if you get some questions wrong on Sapling your grade for the homework will be lower. More specifically, you'll get 19/20 points if you couldn't answer one question, for example. You'll still get partial credit if you get part of a question right, though.

Re: ligand names

I'm 90% sure we won't be able to use the ligand list. Based on the info that about the final exam given on the Dr. Lavelle's website, the only things we can have on the test are the constant and equations sheet, a calculator, and a periodic table, and blank pages of paper for scratch work.

A molecule with a lone pair does not mean that the molecule is polar. For one, the lone pairs have to be on the central atom. Assuming this is true, than the lone pairs have to impact the shape of the molecule in such a way that it becomes asymmetrical, in which case the overall molecule would be po...

Taking my bio and chem classes simultaneously right now, and honestly they both take lots of time to really study the material. At this point I've prioritized my bio class over chem, which probably isn't the best idea for pre-med. I'd recommend taking one of the series before doing the other honestly.

Re: How to deal with significant figures in decimals with zeros.

Zeros that are in between significant figures, like the example you gave in 20.01, count as sig figs. As such, 20.01 has 4 significant figures. For reference, leading zeros that come after a decimal point don't count as significant figures.
