Essentially 200 points or 50% is needed to pass the class with a C-. So if you do all the sapling and chemistry community points, you only need 100 points of midterm and final to pass, which is very helpful and generous.

Electronegativity chart for Midterm
Hi! So in a lecture, Professor Lavelle said something about having a electronegativity difference chart for an exam. I was wondering if there was going to be a need for one this midterm? If so is there a printout link somewhere?

Positive Encouragement for Midterm Week
Hello! I just wanted to make a post where we can all go to to look for encouragement for this week's midterm. I'll start... You ALL have got this, and we will all do our best this week! Make sure you get sleep and don't strain yourself!

I don't believe there are anymore audio-visual modules for the rest of the quarter. It's a shame because I found them really helpful :(

I think in an email Professor Lavelle told us that he will review commonly missed questions from the midterms in a finals review discussion session.

Yeah, like everyone else has said I think that Professor Lavelle will send another email detailing the sections that will be on the midterm in the next week. I was curious too!

Re: grade worries
Yes, i feel the same way, i’m worried about the next midterms and my grades. I think I saw in the syllabus that we need at least 50% or higher to get a C-? I’m not exactly sure how that works.

so essentially if we get over 50% that’s a C-, therefore we pass? Sorry I’m just trying to calculate how this quarter will go for me. Thank you!

Hello! So I was wondering if anyone knows the breakdown of number of points to grades? For instance how many points out of 500 for an A?

Re: Sapling Hw #25
I believe that it is just a computation error, the correct answer is about 4.2 x 10^-26 J, so your answer is not that far off, remember to keep at least four decimal places while you are working until the very end when you can simplify it.

No i don't think Professor Lavelle has told anyone yet, I think he was still figuring that out. I've been told about 15-20 is the average. Sorry if that wasn't extremely helpful, I'm curious myself.

Additional Textbook Practice Problems
Hi! So i was wondering if anyone was doing extra textbook practice problems outside of the assigned ones to further practice for the midterm? If so, are they as hard/harder than the ones Professor Lavelle assigned?

Oh my bad. I didn't actually answer your question directly, but yeah I don't think there was any gas in the bottom. 10/16 Lecture Demo on Atomic Spectra
Hi! So during the lecture's demo on friday, Professor Lavelle told us about the different gases in each section, but I didn't catch the name of the gas used in the bottom section (with the white and rainbow light). Does anyone know the gas? Just want to make a note of these gases and what they look ...

Re: Atomic Spectra and Energy levels
Each energy level n represents a different amount of energy. When the light and its energy level matches the difference in energy between two specific energy levels, the electron can be excited from the energy level that it is currently on to the other energy level. For example, if n=2 has an energ...

Atomic Spectra and Energy levels
Hi, so I just watched the 10/14 lecture and I'm still confused on how "excited electrons" move up or down the atomic spectra and the energy required to move from n=1 to n=3 or vice versa n=3 down to n=1.

Re: Fundamental Exercise E9 and Formula Units
Hi! The previous answer pretty much covered all of it, but if you are looking to convert something to formula units such as atom/molecules, it is important to note that the 6.022 * 10^23 number is per mole. So, if you are trying to say convert 5 moles of water into atoms, you would multiply by Avog...
