Re: Testing with a periodic table

We're all meant to use the same periodic table from Professor Lavelle's website

Yes, Chlorine gas would be Cl2 and Oxygen gas would be O2

I recommend a TI-84 calculator and using the periodic table Lavelle provides for us on his website.

Re: Hydrogen bonds

Hydrogen and Carbon's electronegativities are too similar to create the polarity needed for Hydrogen bonds to form.

Happy Late Thanksgiving! My family likes to go on a road trip up the PCH over break, but this year it wasn't really possible with corona.

Re: Section 1D #25

the n=2 level would need to have 5 orbitals for 2d to exist, which is impossible as the only l values possible are 0 and 1. Therefore the largest ml range is -1 to +1 and the largest possible number of subshells at n=2 is 3. Hope that helps!

Pretty sure Schrodinger's Wave Function is just used as a way to better understand and conceptualize atomic orbitals.

Re: Understanding Black Body Radiation

Black Body radiation is a theoretical concept, because no such object actually exists with these properties. However, in theory a black body is able to absorb any frequency of light and emit radiation at any wavelength. Any emission is called black body radiation.

Yup you got it!
As was said above, For addition and subtraction, round to the least amount of decimal places, and when you're multiplying or dividing use the same number of sig figs as the number with the least.

Re: Determining an orbital

I agree with all the above posts,
n describes the electron shell
l describes the subshell (when l is 0, S, when l is 1, P)
ml is the different orbitals of the subshell

Therefore l would determine 3s vs 3p . Hope that helps!
