You still have a few days until the final so you could try to work on the practice problems throughout the week. On Saturday you could focus more on the concepts you are having difficulty with rather than going over all the topics. Doing it all in one day would probably be overwhelming. Good luck!

Re: Modules This Week
The modules were very helpful for the first midterm but I don't think Dr. Lavelle would be posting new ones.

Re: What do we use formal charges for?
Formal charge is used to determine the most stable Lewis structure, we want a structure that has zero charge or near zero charge as it is most stable.

Re: How to remember what v is in equations
In most cases, the v that is italicized would be the frequency and the normal v would be velocity but it is best to look at the units being used.

Based on what we have learned so far, c will be the speed of light constant (2.998x10^8 m/s).

Re: position units
It would be best to convert nm to m because the units for velocity are m/s therefore you would have the same units when solving the problems.

I find the audio visual modules very helpful as they introduce you to the concepts and you have a better understanding when watching the lectures. The post-assessments are also very helpful as they give you and opportunity to put into practice the concepts you just learned. The problems also allow y...

Re: Advice for studying
It is helpful to complete some of the textbook problems ahead of time to have an idea about what would be covered in lecture. Also take advantage of the workshops and the modules on the website. The modules and the pre/post-assessments cover the basics of the concept and then you could put your unde...

Re: Equation Sheet
I believe we would be given the equations and constants on the test but it would be safe to have an overall idea of them in case they do not. But most likely they would provide us all the information we would need to solve the problems.

Re: protons and electrons
Protons and neutrons have about the same mass while electrons have a smaller mass. The atomic mass of an element is dependent on the weight of the protons and neutrons because electrons have little to no effect on the mass.

Re: work function
Yes, you should used a scientific or graphing calculator to solve those problems. In order to get an accurate result try putting the entire problem in the calculator and use parenthesis correctly. It is important to place the parenthesis in the correct place, to avoid getting the wrong result.

Electrons would not stay in their excited state for a long period of time. They would have to return to their ground state.

When solving for wavelength it would most likely specify what format the answer should be in. If you are not told whether it has to be in meters or nanometers, it should be fine to have your answer in meters.

When solving a problem with multiple steps, such as a two step problem, try using the exact values throughout your calculations and only round your final answer, this would allow you to have an accurate result.

Mostly likely the periodic table would be given to us during the test but it would be helpful if you know the most common elements and start reviewing the rest of them.
