The answers are BCl3, Br2, and C2H6. This is due to the fact that the dipoles cancel out in each molecule, so there is no net dipole moment in each, which means that there are no dipole-dipole interactions, only dispersion forces.

Yes when the question is referring to an electron you use the De Broglie Equation because the electron has mass and is not traveling at the speed of light like a photon would be doing so you cannot use the equation with the constant c.

Re: Midterm
We will be taking the midterm on the respondus lockdown browser during our next discussion section with our TA proctoring and watching our work space therefore I believe it is a closed note test. It is multiple choice however so that is good :)

Re: n1 and n2
N1 is the final and N2 is the initial energy level of the electron. I find this very confusing so I would suggest memorizing the equation using nf and ni to denote final and initial positions of the electron :)

Re: Derivation of Equations on Midterm?
We definitely will not need to be able to show derivations on the test, especially with it being multiple choice. I believe he goes over derivations in lecture just to give us a better understanding of each equation and where it comes from :)

I’m studying by just looking over lecture notes every night to reinforce the material as well as do as many practice problems as possible :)

Re: Black Body Radiation
I don’t think we need to know anything about black body radiation, I believe the discussion with regards to black body radiation was just extraneous material.

Protons have a mass of 1 AMU whereas electrons are considered to have a negligible mass.

Re: unexpected outcome of wave-particle experiment
The unexpected outcome was the fact that even low frequency waves at very high intensities did not cause an electron to be released from the metal.

Re: Tutoring? [ENDORSED]
I wouldn’t pay for a tutor when Dr Lavelle has provided so many free resources for those struggling with their chemistry. If after using those resources you still feel bad then I would look into a tutor.

I would suggest utilizing the wealth of resources Dr Lavelle has such as step up sessions and office hours if you are not feeling confident on your chemistry :)

Re: Office hours vs. step up sessions
I believe Dr. Lavelle said that step up sessions are for people that are most struggling whereas office hours are for people with a bigger grasp on the material.
