It is because they are all negatively charged, they repel each other. They will spread out as far away from each other as they can possibly get. In general, ionic radius decreases with increasing positive charge. As the charge on the ion becomes more positive, there are fewer electrons and the ion has a smaller radius. But you can not predict an ion size based on it's charge
