Re: IMF vs. Intramolecular Forces
I agree with what the people said above. I also think that the question would include a phrase along the lines of "when the molecule interacts with itself" to specify that the question is asking about the intermolecular forces.

Re: Grading Scale for Chem14A
In general, it typically goes that a 93+ is an A and a 90-92.9 is an A-. I think an 87-89% is a B+, but I'm not really sure what the grading scale is past that. Also, another thing to be aware of is that most STEM classes don't round your grade up so even if you have a 92.9%, that would constitute ...

I agree with what the people said above. I might be wrong but I think you can also use electronegativity calculations to calculate bond polarity to determine whether the overall molecule is polar or nonpolar.

Re: London Dispersion forces
Yes, all molecules have London Dispersion Forces. Professor Lavelle said in his lecture that these forces are "always present and attractive." I think this is because the electron densities are always fluctuating, which cause the dipoles to also fluctuate.

Re: bond length
Yeah, I don't think we need to know the exact bond length because Professor Lavelle said in his lectures that the examples of bond length are from research and that we don't need to memorize them. Also, we just need to know the general trends of bond length through atomic radius trend and other conc...

Re: Electron Affinity vs. Electronegativity vs. Ionization Energy
Electronegativity is the tendency of an atom to attract a bonding pair of electrons. Electron affinity is the amount of energy released when an electron attaches to a gaseous atom. Ionization energy is the minimum amount of energy that is required in order to remove a loosely attached electron from ...

Re: Tips for learning the trends in the Periodic table
I don't really have a specific trick to memorizing the trends buy I mostly use two methods: 1. Many of the trends are the same (for example: ionization energy and electronegativity) so I memorize which ones have the same trends so it seems like I don't have to remember all of the individual trends. ...
