Something that has been working for me is setting a timer for an hour (or less) and working until it rings and then giving myself a 15-30 min break and repeating that. This helps me stay focused and make the most of my time.

m(l) depends on the value of l. If l=1, then m(l) can equal -1,0, or 1.
If l=2, then m(l) can equal -2,-1,0,1,2.
So if the problem says that n=2, l=1, m(l)= 1
then it would be referring specifically to the "2pz" state.
If l=2, then m(l) can equal -2,-1,0,1,2.
So if the problem says that n=2, l=1, m(l)= 1

This means that there are five orbitals in a d sub-shell. Since we know that one orbital holds two electrons, and that a d sub-shell can contain up to ten electrons, we can say that ten divided by two is five. Therefore, there are five orbitals in the d sub-shell.

Re: Rearranging De Broglie Equation
wavelength(lambda) = planck's constant(h) / momentum(p)
p = mass x velocity
you can plug in mv for p in the wavelength equation and isolate v
you would end up with
v = h/m(lambda)
p = mass x velocity
you can plug in mv for p in the wavelength equation and isolate v
you would end up with
v = h/m(lambda)

Re: Wavelength
It depends on what units the problem asks for. You might have to convert depending on the answer choices when it is multiple choice.

Re: Speed of light
I would use whatever numbers Dr. Lavelle gives us on his constants/equations sheet.

Re: Purpose of DeBroglie Equation
The DeBroglie Equation shows that objects with a very little mass have wavelike properties that are identifiable and measurable.

Re: Light Intensity
If the photons of the light reach the threshold energy level required to eject electrons from the metal surface, then increasing the intensity of the light will result in more electrons being ejected. However, if the photons do not reach the threshold energy requirement, the intensity of the light w...

Re: photoelectric effect
Yes that are the same. They both equal the amount of energy required from a photon to remove an electron from the metal surface.

Lavelle said that since it is more a physics topic than a chemistry one, we won't discuss it in depth.

I think lectures are going to be recorded and I like it because you can pause and rewind whenever you need to.
