Re: Midterm Question
From what I've heard, it will be anywhere from 10-30 questions. Multiple choice with some conceptual questions, so not all questions will require work to be done.

Re: Lyman vs. Balmer Series
I remember the lyman series is n=1 because a lower case l is very similar to a 1. I remember the Balmer series is n=2 by thinking about how the B in Balmer is the 2nd letter in the alphabet.

Re: How to relax
I enjoy playing video games or watching YouTube, but only after I am done doing my work because if not I will feel very guilty about it.

Re: Balmer or Lyman Series
The Balmer series is any situation where NFinal, or the ending energy level is n=2, and the same concept is applies to the Lyman series except instead of Nfinal being n=2 it is n=1. I t is also good to know that the Lyman series is UV while the Balmer series is Visible light.

Re: Frequency and energy
Yes they do, higher frequency directly correlates to higher energy. If an electromagnetic wave has high frequency it is also a high energy wave.

Re: Midterm
Compile a list of every topic covered so far and from that list mark the ones you are struggling with or not understanding. Watch a YouTube video on each one of those topics, take notes on the videos, and then do practice problems until you feel confident in your understanding of the topic. Do this ...

Re: How are you studying?
I am also struggling to stay on top of things, so what I am doing to study is watching YouTube videos on each topic he covered, taking notes, and doing some practice problems to ensure I know what I am doing. Lavelle's videos are very useful but sometimes I get confused and I am unable to ask questi...

Re: studying tactics
Yes, the book is a very good source that you should use, but on top of that I would recommend watching YouTube videos on material you are struggling with. Take notes while you watch these videos then turn to the book to do some practice problems. Do this for every subject that we have covered so far...

Re: sig fig
I would recommend you wait until the final answer as doing this in the middle of a problem can lead to confusion and may cause your answer to be slightly off.

Re: rounding during equations
I think the general rule of thumb is to wait until you have your final answer to round. This ensures you get the most accurate answer.

Re: difference between empirical and molecular
Since molecular equations are basically some sort of multiple of the empirical equation, find out what that multiple is (should be fairly easy given you have both equations) and then divide the molar mass of the molecular equation by that multiple and if it equals the molar mass of the empirical equ...

Re: Balancing equations.
I like to make a sort of table with the amount of molecules of the reactants on the left side and the amount of molecules of products on the right side. I will update the numbers in the table as I go so all the information I need is organized and clean.

Re: Molar Mass
Usually weather you put in the precise molar mass (EX: O-15.99), round it ( EX: O from 15.99 to 16), or "simplify" it (EX: O from 15.99 to 15.9) you will still be able to get the correct answer, so I think its up to personal preference and the specific molar mass. So for me I will enter C ...
