If you're someone who doesn't tend to well in exams, Lavelle's classes still give you an opportunity to get a good grade with all the points you get from the chemistry community and homework points so make sure you do those!

Re: Covalent Bond Length

For covalent, the difference in electro negativity will determine if the bond is either polar or non polar. And the increasing number of bonds decreases the bond length. Higher bond order (number of bonds) indicated more attraction between electrons and the atoms will be held closer together

Re: Octet Rule Exceptions

There are three general exceptions to the octet rule: 1. Having too many electrons for an octet. This can be done when an element's valence shell has access to the d-orbitals in the third energy level and beyond. There needs to be enough orbitals to accommodate the extra electrons. I believe chlorin...

Chlorine has a higher electron affinity.
As an exception to the rule, Cl has higher EA as compared to F. Fluorine has very small atomic size and this makes the fluoride anion unstable due to very high charge/mass ratio. F has no d orbitals so it has small atomic size. F has EA less than that of Cl.

I'm not sure if that was clear but ill show you the working I did so you get a better idea...

3.59x10^-19=(6.626x10^-34)*(3.0x10+08)/lambda

therefore, lambda = 5.54x10^-7

Re: So confused on Sapling Question

Hi! So when it says the typical work function of the metal is 3.59x10^-19 it's basically saying that's how much energy needs to hit the metal to eject an electron. So you can use the E=h*c/lambda equation giving E the value of 3.59x10^-19 to calculate the wavelength. Once you do that all you have to...
