Re: Chem 14B Enrollment

I think that it would depend on the other classes that you are taking. If you are taking high demand classes than you should enroll in those for first pass, and then 14B for second, but if not, then I would just enroll in 14B for your first pass :)

I just went to the regular discussion link like 5 minutes before, and my ta said to go the other link, so if you want you can go to the regular discussion link or just go to the zoom link on the midterm!

Re: Textbook problem Quantum World 1A 15

so I used v=c/lambda to find the frequency, and then I used the equation v=R[1/n1^2-1/n2^2], where I plugged in the values of v, R, and n1 and then I solved for n2. I did have to round a little bit when I got to the step of taking the square root, but if you use this equation you should get the answ...

For studying, I am going to be doing as much textbook problems that I can, because it will help me understand how to go about doing a problem, and what to look for in problems. Im probably just going to review notes, and since we get equation sheet and a periodic table, Im not going to worry about m...

Re: photoelectric effect module help!!

The answer for this is D. When they first did the experiment, no electrons were being ejected from the metal surface, so they increased the intensity of the light, and still there were no electrons being ejected. This is what made them change the frequency of the light to UV light, so that finally e...

Re: Textbook Question 1A 15

First you determine that the final energy level is n=1, because it is UV light. Then you convert the wavelength into into meters. From there, you find the frequency, v, from the equation v=c/lambda. You then plug in n1^2, Rydberg's constant, and the frequency into the equation v=R[1/n1^2-1/n2^2]. An...

Re: Q#39 Atomic Spectra Post Assessment

The correct answer is 486 nm. If you plug in the values of n into the equation v=R[1/n1^2-1/n2^2], you would get 3.29*10^15[1/4-1/16]. And since you need the wavelength and not frequency, v changes to c/wavelength. The final equation would be (3.00*10^8)/3.29*10^15[1/4-1/16], and then you multiply y...

There is a page on his website that has all of the rules of sig figs. For problems, you would match sig figs of the number that has the lowest sig figs, which should determine how many numbers to the right of the decimal point you should put in your answer.

I believe that if the given mass in the problem is the same as the mass you calculated from the empirical formula that you derived, then the molecular and empirical formula would be the same. Does that help?

Re: Photoelectric Effect Module Question

I can help with the first, but I was also unsure with the last two! You have to use the equation E(k)=1/2mv^2, where velocity is given, and the mass of the electron is 9.1*10^-31 kg. The mass of an electron is constant so that is why it isn't given in the problem.
