Re: Polar and Nonpolar Molecules

I agree that you don't really need to know a lot about it, and there are probably no questions on polarity on MT2. However, it would be better to know some basics, which might help you solve questions in some ways.

Re: Midterm 2

I would say Dr. Lavelle is making questions pretty straightforward, so just go over the notes carefully, review your sapling homework questions, and do some extra textbook questions for practice, and you'll be fine!

Re: textbook 3F.3

The question is saying "important" because dipole-dipole is not the only force existing between molecules. Actually, the London dispersion force exists among all molecules. As a result, in order to emphasize the existence of dipole-dipole, the question is using the word "important&quo...

Yeah that question kind of confused me as well, but I think it's simply asking which Lewis structure helps form the overall structure or which Lewis structure makes up the overall structure. I don't remember the exact question, but I think you can find more information in Lavelle's lecture dealing w...

Re: midterm question re: sapling #3

After taking the midterm exam already, I would say that it's not required since Dr. Lavelle will give you the chemical formula. However, it's better to try to memorize some of them and figure out the way they are formatted, especially when you are pursuing a chemistry-related major in the future. Ho...

Re: Textbook Problem 1E 5

Ok so the effective nuclear charge is just the charge that the electrons actually feel, but you have to take into account electron repulsion which would depend on the number of electrons available. I also know for a fact that the s orbitals are better at shielding electrons than p orbitals so that ...

I would say overall the course is manageable. There's not much homework, only 3 big tests, and the discussion section is kind of optional. It doesn't take much time like some other courses I am taking. However, things are becoming more and more difficult as I expect Hopefully we'll go through these ...

As someone has already suggested, it would be helpful to have a place only for study. You can never imagine how distracting it can be when you are studying in your bedroom with your comfortable bed. One best way to calm down is to be fully prepared! Just do some revisions and some extra questions and build some confidence. Also, having a good sleep or watching some videos can help. I would say having a pet is also a good way to relax when you are stressful and anxious.
