You're going to be using the Nernst equation for this problem (E=E^*-RT/nFlnQ), but you have to do a few things first. R is 8.3145 J/mol*K and F is 96485 J/V*mol, with temp @ 298.15 K, those are your constants so you need to find the rest. To find Q, divide the [Products]/[Reactants]. You also need ...

Re: Week 8/9 Thoughts/Worries

I feel the same way. It is my first quarter at UCLA and I've learned what to do and what not to do in the future. Lavelle has been the best professor for chemistry and I am glad he gives us all of these resources. I was feeling a bit down but todays lecture about myoglobin and hemoglobin really inte...

Re: Hemoglobin vs. Myoglobin

Hi! As said in today's lecture, myoglobin is used for muscles and tissues and hemoglobin is reserved for blood. Hemoglobin has 4 myoglobin-like molecules which gives the opportunity to transport 4 oxygens (O2) at a time

No Discussion because of Thanksgiving [ENDORSED]

I have my discussion on Thursday and because of the holiday it was cancelled. Does that put us behind the other discussions now or will we be reviewing this weeks lectures and next weeks during our next discussion? I enjoy reviewing each topic with my TA and I hope we discuss ligands, etc.!

Re: Ligands

The number of ligands attached to central ion, which is actually the number of donor atoms is basically the coordination number. In other words, the number of bonds also equals the coordination sphere! For example, with [Fe(CN)6]4- everything within the bracket is inside the coordination sphere, an...

This problem is more so asking for all possible outcomes for n=2, so it has the potential to fill 2s^2 and 2p^6 with the 2s-subshell (l=0,ml=1) and the 2p-subshell (l=1, ml=-1,0,+1 (3 spots)). I'm sorry it can be kind of confusing but I hope this helps!

So you would determine the bond length through the number of bonds (single bond being the longest and triple bond being the tightest) and the size of the atom. Hope this helps!
