Hello. Can someone explain how to solve this problem from the chem textbook? I used the formula for an Arrhenius equation that looks like this: ln(kr2 / kr1) = Ea/R (1/T1 - 1/T2) However, I got an answer that is WAYYY off from the textbook solutions. Can someone please explain? Thanks: The rate cons...

I am still a little confused on where to put Pt when there's no conducting metal. I think I've seen it on the right and left. I had asked a similar question too. Hello all! I have a quick question in regards to cell diagrams. When do you put a Pt(s) in your diagram and when do you not? Also, I've seen some solutions in Atkins_7e_SSM that have Pt(s) on only one side of the diagram.

I would gladly appreciate any help! thanks

Hi! So since the reaction isn't in standard conditions, where [H+]=1 M and PH3=1 atm, we have to use the Nerst equation for nonstandard conditions: E=E˚-(0.0592V)/n logQ. Using the equation 2H+ + 2e- --> H2, we can find the E˚ from the table, and we can determine Q from Q=P/R (make sure to square t...

Re: Midterm

Most likely, the midterm will be multiple choice. Once again, it's not 100% confirmed, but all of our tests for 14A were structured that way. Usually, Lavelle offers good reviews thru UA sessions and stuff during Week 4, so do utilize them!

For the outlines, I usually like to read through the chapter/sections and take notes. It's just another set of helpful info that goes along with the lectures, Audio-visual assignments, etc. The problems from the outline are very, very similar to what is given as practice by TA's and on the tests. I personally would ask your TA, but Im sure you don't need to get 100 posts if you just entered this quarter. As long as you hit 5 per week, for ten weeks, and have 50 total I'm sure you will be fine!

Plus, I don't think they're mean enough to make you do double ;)

Ferrate was used at least by my TA when dealing with Iron. It is because it's the latin "ferra" and then the "-ate" at the end of the ion. I don't think it matters, but since -ferr was being used by my TA (and the UA in your case) I am assuming that is what is recommended.
