The energy required to break a bond comes down to its stability. A single bond is less stable than a double bond; a double bond is less stable than a triple bond, and so on. Electrons are more restricted when there are more bonds present. Therefore, it will require more energy to break those bonds.

Re: Interactions Between Ions and Molecules

Ion ion interactions are stronger because ions are fully charged. An example is NaCl, Na has a full +1 charge, and Cl has a full -1 charge. Ions are fully charged because the cation loses its electrons, and the anion gains electrons. These large and opposite charge values create a big attraction. T...

You can't use the uncertainty equation to find mass or velocity, correct? Do you have to use wavelength=h/p?

Re: Rydberg Equation

n2 represents the excited state the electron is in, while n1 represents the energy level that the electron returns to. n2 is always greater than n1. I may be wrong, but that's the way I think about the Rydberg Equation.

Text Book Problems

For question F3 in the textbook, it asks what the formula for nitric acid is. Will we have to memorize what atoms are present in certain molecules, or are we going to be tested on our ability to right an empirical/molecular formula based on a molecule's name? F3 a) Write the formula for nitric acid....

Re: Difference in Equations

Does it matter which equation we use on the midterm? Since they are related, you can use either equation to answer certain problems, but is Dr. Lavelle picky on which one we use on tests?

Re: Kinetic Energy of an Electron

I think E=mc 2 tries to describe the relationship between mass and energy. Basically, what einsteins equation is saying is that mass (matter) and energy are interchangeable, and they are the same thing. On the other side of things, the basic equation KE=1/2mv 2 is just telling you the kinetic energy...

Will we be given an equation and mathematical constant sheet for the midterm and final exams, or should I remember all the equations and constants we have learned in these units so far?

Re: standing circular wave model

When talking about the standing circular wave model, does this model show the general "path" of the electron as it circles the atom's nucleus? I understand that electrons have wave-like properties, but it is also a physical particle, so does the circular wave model describe its orbit?

I think Amazon has the best prices for webcams. I was able to buy a decent webcam for about $17.48 after tax with free shipping 2-day shipping through Amazon Prime. I will attach a link to the webcam below. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B087C7C17P/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&p...
