Re: Acid Rain
there are pollutants in the air including SO2, NO3-, CO2 which are caused by coal power plants, etc. These pollutants react with water or oxygen and produce acid rain.
ex: SO2 + H2O---> H2SO3

This relates to the resonance structures, if a bond is localized then it does not move but if it is delocalized the the electron can move depending on the resonance structure.

so if you draw out the lewis structure you would see that N is in the middle and there are 3 hydrogens attached to N, as well as 1 lone pair. That means there are a total of 4 things surrounding N which explain the sp3 hybridization.... (s1p3 adds up to 4)

KA measures the strength of an acid whereas pKA is the negative log of that value. It's just an easier and more convenient way to refer to the KA value as far as I know. =) Does a higher Ka value represent a stronger acid or is it not that simple? Yup, the higher the Ka value the stronger the acid....

The empirical and molecular formula can be the same, but in order to ensure that they are the same you have to check the molar mass of the empirical formula and make sure it is in the range of the molecular formula.
