Re: Tips for remembering

If you ever forget trends, just think about what you know about atoms. It's better to know the reasons why these trends occur rather than just remembering them. However, I do find it helpful to write arrows on my periodic table just to refer back to.

Re: Sapling 23

Valerie explained it perfectly!
Just find the energy of the light, convert it to eV, subtract the experimentally measured energy of ejected electrons, then convert the electron affinity to kJ/mole.

Sapling #24

Hi. I'm having some trouble with the homework question pertaining to the wave patterns associated with the Bohr orbits of the hydrogen atom. Could someone explain to me what a sinusoidal and constant wavelength around the orbit looks like?

A good practice is probably rounding at the end!

It's included in the readings but I think Lavelle said it's not something we need to know.

Yes, I don't think you need to know how to determine it, just need to know the quantum numbers.

If you're still confused just look in the textbook! It'll tell you what exactly it's used for.

Midterm Q

Is Schrodinger's equation on the midterm and if so, to what extent, if at all?

Re: WK 2 Sapling #5

From n=6, an electron could drop to n= 5,4,3,2,1 so you have 5 spectral lines. The highest energy transition would be from n=6 to n=1, which would be the lower wavelength when thinking about the range. The lowest energy transition would be from n=6 to n=5, which would be the larger wavelength when t...

Re: Atomic Spectroscopy

It wouldn't be wavelike properties since it is not continuous like a wave, rather it is quantized.

to find the mass, divide the molar mass of O2 by Avogadro's number and then convert it to kg!

Sapling HW

I'm kinda having trouble superscripting on Sapling? I'm trying to do it for an electron configuration but can't seem to do it.
