Because the final is set to be during a longer time span (2 hours I believe?), I'm pretty sure we'll all be taking it at the same time instead of in discussion section, but nothing's been set in stone so I could be wrong about that. Like everyone else has said, it should be cumulative, but I'm prett...

The class has honestly been pretty manageable so far in terms of keeping up with the workload and finding resources to make sure I fully understand the material. That being said, I do think the testing system could be improved somewhat. For the final, if we all take it during the same time slot, I h...

If you have other friends who are taking the class or a class similar to this, I would recommend trying to explain the topics on the outlines to them. Re: TM "Octet"
As others have said, because transition metals have d-orbitals, they're definitely capable of producing expanded octets and breaking the octet rule, but also keep in mind that just because they're capable of producing an expanded octet, that doesn't mean they'll always form one. So there definitely ...

Re: d orbitals
Another good thing to know about d-orbitals is that they allow elements to produce expanded octets. Because of this, elements in the third row or below in the periodic table can have an expanded octet. This is because, for n = 3, d-orbitals can accommodate more electrons by participating in bonding ...

Re: Expanded Octet Question
As others mentioned, the reason that certain elements are able to form expanded octets is because of the presence of the d-orbital. For n = 3, d-orbitals can accommodate more electrons by participating in bonding with other atoms, therefore producing an expanded octet. But of course, for this to hap...
