Re: Midterm 1 answer key
During office hours Dr. Lavelle will go over commonly missed problems. Maybe that’s when he will share the rest.

For most classes we won’t be having discussions this week but I haven’t heard anything about Dr. Lavelle’s class. Perhaps our TA’s will email us

In an email Dr. Lavelle said that he would be offering partial credit however it may be difficult to determine by the way the midterm was set up. He hasn't said anything about curving the exam so more than likely he will not.

Re: Tips for Staying Focused
One great tip is to set aside all distractions you may encounter. For example your phone or turn of the tv. Some people find it helpful to play music as it helps them focus easier. Try to take notes or write down some stuff you learned from the lecture.

Re: Test Scored for Midterm 1
No one really know when the scores are coming out. Most of us were told that the scores would come out after the discussions ended. However they may still be revising the test to see if there are any errors.

Re: midterm 1
No one really knows how many questions. However it will be 50 minutes long and the TAs say this is will be enough time. It will be multiple choice but will have both short and long response questions. Hope this helps.

Hello! No one is certain how many questions there will be. The only thing we know for certain is that there will be both long and short response questions. And also don’t forget to print out the two worksheets that we are able to use for the midterm with all the formulas and periodic table :)

Hello! Some TAs have said it’s not necessary to purchase one because you could use your phone to be on zoom. But if you do prefer to use a webcam, Amazon has a great selection of ones that could be helpful.

Hello, yes you can purchase the sapling code through the ucla web store. However it does take some time to ship. Some people have emailed them and they have sent them a picture of their code after they purchased it. Professor Lavelle sent an email with help on how to obtain the sapling trail if you ...

Re: do we have to have another webcam for this class?
No you do not have to buy another webcam for the class. Lavelle recently sent out an email stating that it wasn’t required it’s an extra option. You’re able to connect to the zoom with your phone or another device just make sure to log in with your ucla zoom account. However if you feel confortable ...

Re: Where can I buy a webcam for a reasonable price?
This has been a topic of discussion in the group chats for this class. Honestly if you really want to invest in a camera there are cheap ones on Amazon you could get. But our TA’s and Professor Lavelle’s email say that we are allowed to use our phones to record just in case you want to save the mone...

Re: Empirical vs Molecular Formula?
1) yes ofc! Or you could also use the formula they give you to find the mass. All you have to do is look at each element and see how many of each is used and then add them up to the rest of the elements and you get the mass. 2) yes they will more than likely tell us what formula they are looking for...

Re: Sapling Week 1 #8
Sometimes pictures like this could be a little intimidating so just count each element. And then look up the amount there is of each element from there just look up the “weight” on the periodic table for each one. Since there are 6 carbons you would just look it up carbon and see the weight is 12.01...

Re: Is there a way to turn in homework without purchasing sapling
I don’t think so. We only have the free trial available for us to use until our code has shipped. Sadly I don’t think there’s a way of not having it as it is where we turn in our assignments.

Re: Sapling Wk 1 Question 10
Most likely on quizzes or exams we will be given the formulas because they will probably be through lockdown browsers. But for right now it was just practice so that might be why we just had to look them up. I may be wrong but it may be what they end up doing.
